Mission

Who we are

Javor Violinski Institut is a nonprofit violin school based in Sarajevo. We are dedicated to making high-quality violin education accessible to everyone: regardless of income, age, or experience. Through somatic-centered pedagogy, community-based instruction, and cross institutional collaboration, we are part of a movement building a vibrant cultural future for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Gallery Story

For the past four years, Melika has developed and refined this approach through group classes that emphasize movement, balance, oppositional forces, and body awareness. The result is a method that not only prevents the physical and psychological injuries common in the classical field, but also makes violin accessible to learners of all backgrounds.

We designed this method around the whole child, prioritizing creativity, curiosity, and community over competition and exclusion. Our program is the first in the world to achieve violin proficiency through a fully choreographed, body-centered movement practice, executed in rhythmical, musical structures that are accessible to all.

Our belief is simple: every child deserves the chance to create sound. Our job is to guide them in finding their own.

About

Our Story and Philosophy

Founded by Bosnian violinist and pedagogue Melika, Javor was born from a desire to transform the way violin is taught and experienced. Melika studied violin performance and methodology around the world—including in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, England, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Throughout this journey, she observed and experienced first-hand the limitations and physical toll of traditional violin pedagogies. Her response was to create a globally informed, somatic-centered methodology that brings the violin back to the body.
